The Growcer is a social enterprise that aims to address food inaccessibility by enabling communities to grow fresh produce year-round through its modular hydroponic farms. The company was founded based on the firsthand experience of its founders in Nunavut in 2015, where they witnessed the challenges of growing healthy food in extreme climates. Initially, the vertical growing technology was deployed in food insecure and remote communities, but it has since expanded to partner with schools, nonprofits, and non-remote communities that recognize the benefits of local food production. To date, Growcer farms have been used by communities and institutions across Canada to grow over a million servings of local, nutritious greens.
