The Canadian Red Cross

The Canadian Red Cross is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which has approximately 100 million volunteers worldwide. The Movement includes the International Committee of the Red Cross, which acts as the guardian of the Geneva Conventions and is responsible for protecting the lives and dignity of victims in armed conflicts under international humanitarian law. The other branch of the Movement is the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which coordinates disaster response activities at the national level for over 187 national societies, including the Canadian Red Cross. Each of these societies acts as an auxiliary to the public authorities in their own country. The Red Cross's work is made possible through donations, and the support of the population is essential as it enables thousands of volunteers to take action.
